Abstract

My research inquiry is at the intersection of improvised dance and walking practice located in urban spaces in south east London. I am curious about the urban environment because I have lived in urban spaces all of my life and it has immensely impacted my lived experience. Powerful moments in wide open spaces accessed and experienced through walking, by contrast, have made clear the impact and unique qualities of the urban cityscape: intermingling with other people, chance, coincidence, terms and conditions, cultural norms, lived experiences, memory in space – these components swirling in the urban space.
