Abstract

‘Trace’ is an interdisciplinary project aiming to shuttle between the boundaries delineating body, material and space. Furthermore, it explores the interrelationship and dynamic of the dialogue between raw materials and bodily movements.

The research starts with the proposition that the entity is not merely an objective existence but the one with its own agency and very much alive. The research comprises three parts. The first step is interaction with raw materials, it contains the practice of observation, touch/touched experiments and dynamic movements conversation. These three steps highlight the importance of the visual and tactile experience. Further analysis of the material’s truth can broaden access to the realm of rich association and possibility. The other part focuses on the personal embodiment practice, which provides a method of processing the sensory experience, extracting the essence and transferring something in a state of potentiality into a strong overt trajectory. This study finds that this exercise reveals where the body and materials intersect. The exercise also offers a method of simultaneously deepening and strengthening the embodiment and felt sense.

Lastly, when performers, materials and viewers co-exist in the same situation, how can space be constructed for spectators to fully participate? Articulating the ideas of building the network connects the resonance in the space. This research allows the entity to visit the internal and external scenery, becoming both subject and object with a distinct life vibrancy.
