Abstract

This research approaches a tension between a somatically-informed movement practice and choreographic processes, through drawing on principles within the Authentic Movement practice of witnessing, elements of experiential anatomy – informed by Body-Mind Centering – and Buddhist philosophy, all of which point towards developing consciousness of experiences unfolding. The practice as research searches for a making practice that eschews a predisposition toward pre-emptive and pre-judging modes, but rather has the dynamic of lovingly witnessing the artistic work unfolding, opening to the resonant space of not-yetknowing between sensation and perception, and the environmental space between subject and object. The process traces an evolution from studio; to site; to image making and installation, throughout which the loving witness becomes a mediative membrane for many the resonant spaces present within a holistic dance and image making practice.
