La Prepotenza del Vento: a translation from narration to film and from film to live performance / Giulia Roversi (2022)

La Prepotenza del Vento is a project characterised by the presence of three different forms
of art, one graphic and two visual: a written text, a film and a live performance. Each of them depends on the analysis and translation of the previous one, whose starting point lies in the narration of La Prepotenza del Vento, written by the Italian play writer and filmmaker Matteo Zonca and I, starting from 2016.
The verb To translate belongs from Latin traducere and it means to transport and to transfer.
The aim of this project (and of this thesis) is to outline the way in which I transferred
meanings, aesthetics, practice and techniques from one output to the other.
At the heart of the project there is the power that cinema can have on the audience and the
way in which I used the filmmaking as a source of inspiration for the staging of the live
performance. The editing of the film has also been used in terms of choreographic
composition device, which means that the same techniques used on the timeline of the
editing program have been converted into movement compositional practice in the studio.
This thesis aims to prove how editing can help the development of the interaction between
performers and how composing movements through the lenses of the camera and for the
frame can open up a range of new possibilities and ideas while approaching the staging of a
live performance.
