Abstract

Dance like no man is watching explores community dance for the LGBTQIA+
community. Combining queer-feminist pedagogy and community dance pedagogy a
community dance workshop for non-binary individuals and queer women is created to
explore dance in a caring, comfortable space. With the participants, themes of inclusion and
community are discussed, and questions emerge about the accessibility of dance classes.
The findings proof the strong need for queer dance spaces and critique the prevailing cisand heteronormativity in mainstream dance spaces. Through the developed pedagogical
approach and its practical framework, the work serves as a starting point for future projects.
Its critical discussion contributes to the wider discourse of community dance and critical arts pedagogy.
