This dissertation is an exploration of the creative processes involved in the creation of a dance for live performance and that for the screen. The outcome is a creation of a screendance One 2 Three, and this written document which expands upon the discoveries and reflections in the creation of this work.
This investigation seeks to explore principles of embodiment in the field of dance, examine the process I undertook during the creation and performance of the live work Kintsugi (2016) and track the progression of my embodiment of the work as a member of Transitions Dance Company 2017. It will also explore what methods can be used to capture, analyse and preserve this live work as a means to support my personal discoveries and reflections, this includes video recordings of the progression of my solo from rehearsals to performances, and two video documentaries of the full performance of Kintsugi, one a single shot from a fixed audience perspective and the second an edited dance film documentary of the work.
The document will then examine the historical context of screendance and how it has established itself as an independent hybrid art form separate to dance. I will then examine how I am able to use elements from the live performance as a stimulus for the creation of a screendance work, what this creative process entailed and how embodiment of a screendance work differs to a live performance
