Abstract

A note to myself is a research project led by Thomas Withington. This research presented as an autobiographical account explores my relationship to re-language how I can experience embodiment. The enquiry, although an emergent process was seeking to understand, how I could deepen my awareness of embodiment and presence for the solo performer. The ideas were developed both philosophically and kinaesthetically, influenced by phenomenology and somatic practice, including that of Bartenieff Fundamentals and BodyMind Centering.

Utilising such ideas, this investigation aimed to recognise the lived experience of the embodied self, researching and moving from a personal perspective and narrative. I question what it is to feel fully connected, alive and integrated when moving and what influence this has on embodiment and my experiences.
