Abstract
Our Body of Water 2, is a filmic installation that investigates the relationship between the female form and water. This thesis delves into the theories that underpin this connection. Chapter 1 discusses the conception of choreography, rooted in hegemonic Western principles and my attempt to create an unorthodox response to these archetypes. Chapter 2 reflects on the patriarchal structure of society, resulting in the oppression (and dehumanisation) of women – reduced to sex objects for the pleasure of men. Chapter 3 is a discourse on watery feminist philosophies, and the thematic exploration of water by previous artists, including Astrida Neimanis and Bill Viola. Through this practice, I incorporate my personal experiences and opinions as a female within a phallocentric regime.
